Google Chrome 14.0.835.202 Stable

A browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology

In the last couple of years, the fight for the supremacy of the browser kingdom has involved just two major players. In the blue corner, Firefox, in the red one, Internet Explorer, each trying to take the lion’s share and attract more users. Recently however, the search engine giant Google has decided to enter the battle with its very own solution, claiming that it can offer users the same good thing we’re all looking for: insane speed.

Called Chrome, Google’s browser has quickly attracted attention and people installed it at least to see what all the frenzy is about. Google Chrome however is more than that, and you’ll find that right at the first run.

Installation is extremely easy, in the pure Google way. A simple installer that makes the whole job just a matter of “Nexts” plus a few options that are far from complicated. Simply put, it’s just piece of cake, the kind of browser that even your baby could install.

The interface is clean and pleasant, but if that’s not really your style, here’s something you can do. Yes, we know, you could say it is borrowed from Mozilla’s Firefox, but this could be the only way to give users the power of customization: themes. Google Chrome supports theming, which means every user can bring his very own touch to an otherwise great app.

Leaving the interface aside, Google Chrome works quite great. It’s light and fast, just like every browser should be, offering impressive work space and great functionality.

In case some of your favorite features are missing, don’t worry. You can always help your browser do new things by installing extensions, somehow in the way Mozilla does with Firefox. Google has created a special website for Chrome extensions, so you can find basically anything from education to games, lifestyle and blogging.

So, the interface is simply great, customization is a state-of-the-art thing, but what about functionality? Is it fast or slow? What about crashes? How does it work with Flash and Web 2.0 pages? Is it really friendly with computer resources?

Let’s take all these things one at a time. Google Chrome is one extraordinary browser, is fast and loads pages at least just as quick as the other big names in browsing category. Plus, it never crashes. During our test, we had absolutely no problem, and when we say no problem, we really mean it.

Chrome worked great and never crashed but, in case the inevitably occurs, don’t worry. If one of the sites you’re accessing stops responding, you have the option to “force close” just one tab and not the whole browser. This way, you won’t lose your work and everything is fine.

Just like most of the things developed by Google, Chrome is absolutely free so you won’t have to pay a dime for using it.

The conclusion can only be positive. Google Chrome was designed with simplicity in mind, it was meant to be an extremely easy to use app but, at the same time, to be able to transform into a powerful package once the user, if he wants to, starts installing add-ons. This makes it the perfect browser basically for every type of user out there.
